Jesus chose to obey the will of his Father so that we could be forgiven.
Bible story
After the last supper, Jesus and his 11 disciples took a walk to Mount Olives. Jesus wanted to spend time to pray to his Father. When they reached the Garden of Gethsemane, he said to them : “Pray that you may not enter into temptation. “ ( Luke 22 : 40 )
Jesus went away to pray to his Father. His heart was filled with sadness. Jesus knew that his Father sent him to this world to suffer and die for the sins of God’s people.
Jesus knelt down and pray : “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but Yours, be done. “ ( Luke 22:42 )
Even if he was afraid, he still submitted to His Father’s will. Jesus chose to obey God’s plan for him. He would go to the cross and bear the punishment for our sin. While Jesus was praying, an angel from heaven came to give him strength.
After a while, Jesus rose from prayer and found the disciples were sleeping. He said to them : “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation. ”
Just then, Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, arrived. A crowd of people carrying swords and clubs followed him. Judas came forward to Jesus and kissed Jesus. This was a signal to the guards of the temple to arrest Jesus. Jesus said : “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss? ”
When the disciples saw Jesus was arrested, one of them pulled up a sword and cut off the servant of the high priest’s right ear. “No more of this!” Jesus said. Then Jesus made the disciple put the sword away and healed the servant.
Jesus knew that this was the way to become our savior. So the Son of God did not stop Judas and the crowd of enemies. Jesus quietly allowed the guards to arrest and take him to the house of the higher priest. Jesus chose to obey his Father in heaven so that we could be forgiven through his sacrifice.
