Ringkasan:

Lesson Focus:
– Jesus tells us to follow Him.

Bible story:

On last supper, before Jesus was arrested. Jesus told them that he is going to die on the cross. Peter was too confident, he said he would follow Jesus and would die with Jesus. But did he do what he said? No, he was so scared, he left Jesus. Even he denied that he knew Jesus three times. He had wanted to follow Jesus, but it was hard to do so, he wept bitterly.

Peter had gone back to being a fisherman after Jesus rose from the dead. They fished all night and did not have a single fish swim into their nets. Jesus came and called out to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Peter realised that it was Jesus who was on the shore, and he jumped out of the boat and swam as fast as he could to Him.

After Jesus had breakfast together with the disciples, Jesus spoke to Peter. Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” for three times. “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Peter said. The third time Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me!” – John 21:19

This was the time when Peter truly repented. Peter realised his sins, he is now gladly obeying God’s command to serve Him.

Lesson summary :
– The story of Peter’s failure reminds us of our weakness and sinfulness and our need in total dependence on
Christ.
– Our God is merciful. Jesus Himself who called Peter to repentance, forgive his sin and restore Peter to serve
God again. Jesus knew that Peter’s heart was repentant and he was ready to trust and obey God.
– When we receive forgiveness from God, we should be grateful by living our life to please God, to love Him and
serve Him only.
