Ringkasan:
God gave specific instructions to the Israelites for worshipping him through Moses. And the people have to obey God in every detail, as this is how God wants the people to worship Him.
He set people, places and things apart as holy. He has set the Tabernacle, the priests, the garments as holy. Furthermore, God designated holy days for this people to keep forever. Major holy days are set forth in Leviticus 23 with specific instructions from God on how they are to be celebrated. We covered the 7 sacred assemblies in this lesson: the Sabbath, the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Firstfruits, the Feast of Weeks, the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement and the Feast of the Tabernacle.
Through these assemblies the people were to remember God with joy and thanksgiving, celebrating his goodness and redemption. The festivals also show the character of God – his holiness, justice, sovereignty, generosity and faithfulness in keeping his covenant promise.
The Day of Atonement was the most holy day of the Year and it is the only day where the High Priest was able to enter into the Most Holy Place. The Israelites have to deny themselves by fasting, praying and repenting of their sins during the past year. The Day of Atonement was the day of the removal of the guilt of sin. But it was a shadow of what was to come and how God is going to achieve that through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
By suffering and dying on the cross, Jesus accomplished completely and permanently all that the sacrificial system did incompletely. What the sacrifices only served as a reminder, Jesus was the perfect, unblemished sacrifice that God gave to mankind, through whom we can receive forgiveness of sin. Praise be to God!
