Lesson focus: The Holy Spirit gives us opportunities to spread the good news of Jesus
After Paul and Barnabas had completed their service (brought the offering from Antioch’s church to the church in Jerusalem) – they left Jerusalem and returned to Antioch bringing John Mark with them.
In Antioch, the Christians continued to pray and learnt God’s word from Barnabas, Paul, the prophets and teachers there. They all worshipped God, prayed, and waited on the Lord to hear His will about spreading the gospel to the Gentiles.
One day as they were praying and fasting, the Holy Spirit told them to set apart Barnabas and Paul for doing what God had called them to do. God wanted them to spread the good news of Jesus and preach the Word of God to people in many different places. The Christians in Antioch were excited to know exactly what God wanted them to do. They were glad to obey God and ready to send out Barnabas and Paul as missionaries to many other places.
When Barnabas and Paul were ready for their trip, the church in Antioch prayed with them and sent them out. The church in Antioch had served God by giving, now they were serving God by sending out missionaries.
Barnabas and Paul were glad that God had chosen them to go and tell others about Jesus and that the Holy Spirit was with them and helped them. The Holy Spirit would give them all they needed to serve God.
As children, we can do the work of missionaries when we tell our friends/families/neighbors who Jesus is and if they trust in Jesus as their Savior and God, they will be saved! We can give offerings to support the missionaries or any mission trip, too.
We can become His channel of blessing to share God’s love with others, but sometimes we are too scared, too lazy, too busy, too shy, and give too many excuses. Throw away those obstacles or excuses, pray to God to help us, and give us strength to be used by Him.
Do you want to become His channel of blessing?
