Ringkasan:
This week children learned about the 10th commandment, that says “You shall not covet…”. Covet is not only about wanting something; Covet means wanting something that belongs to someone. Coveting begins in the heart. It is an attitude that says, “I want something I don’t have” in the way that is wrong. Sinful attitude on the inside can lead to sinful actions. When we covet, we are not satisfied. We feel jealous, envious and resentful.
Children learned the story of King Ahab who coveted Naboth’s vineyard. From the story, we can learn the following:
1. We covet because we cannot be content with what we receive from God
2. When we covet, it affects our minds and attitudes so badly
3. Sin of coveting leads to more and more sin (lying, stealing, killing)
God wants the children to do the following:
1. God commands us to hate sinful thoughts and do what is right
2. God wants us to be satisfied with what he gives us and thankful for the blessings that others enjoy
3. The only way we can learn to be content is keep trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept what he has provided for us. We can learn from Paul who wrote a letter to the Philippians “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content… I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Ayat Hafalan:
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
