Ringkasan:
On the same day that Jesus rose from the dead, two friends who were Jesus’ followers, were walking from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. They were so sad and felt hopeless because Jesus – the Saviour had been crucified and died. They were so confused because His tomb was empty. Where was He now?
As they were walking, another Man joined them. This Man asked the 2 friends, what they were talking about. Cleopas asked this Man, are you the only person in Jerusalem who does not know about what happened there? Cleopas and his friend told this Man about JESUS and the wonderful things Jesus had done, His teachings, how the leaders arrested Him and then put Him to death on a cross. Then on the 3rd day, the women said they had seen two
angels who told them that Jesus was alive, but even until then, no one had seen Jesus!
This Man listened to them then this Man said: Did not Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His Glory? He began to teach Cleopas and his friend about the Saviour that God had promised from long ago, who had been written about in the Scriptures.
When they reached Emmaus, Cleopas and his friend asked the Man to stay with them as it was nearly evening. They sat down to eat, this Man took bread and broke it after thanking God. Then God showed to Cleopas and his friend, that this Man was JESUS who was sitting there with them. When they recognized Him, Jesus disappeared – He’s suddenly gone.
Cleopas and his friend were so happy, they had just seen the risen Saviour! They rushed back to go to Jerusalem to meet the 11 disciples and other followers of Jesus to tell them that JESUS was alive! They told them what had happened on their way to Emmaus and how Jesus showed Himself to them when he broke the bread. They remembered how Jesus broke the bread at the last supper – in remembrance of Him.
Lessons Learnt/Summary:
Why was Cleopas and his friend sad? They were so sad because they had lost their hope in Jesus who was supposed to be the Saviour to redeem His people – but He was crucified and they thought that Jesus’ body was missing.
They could not recognise Jesus at first until He blessed and broke the bread – because Jesus revealed Himself and they could remember the Last Supper that Jesus told them to do as a remembrance of Him. It is the grace of God that Jesus revealed Himself to us too. Give thanks to God for his grace.
The biggest enemy of humans is death. JESUS has conquered the death, so we can have hope in JESUS – the risen Saviour!
JESUS is the biggest hope and our hope. We have to share this hope to others, why? Because many people have lost hope. We can share the Gospel – so they can have hope in JESUS!
