We are born as a weak being before we grow up. We are still fully dependent on our parent as a baby. In Mark 10:13-16, we see the tenderness and compassion of Jesus as he welcomes children with open arms. Just like a lost lamb, we must come with open heart to God. The disciples initially rebuke the parents for bringing their children to Jesus, thinking that Jesus would be too busy for them. But Jesus rebukes the disciples and welcomes the children, saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14).
This passage teaches us several important lessons.
1. it reminds us of the value and importance of children. Jesus not only welcomes them but also blesses them, demonstrating his love for them.
2. it reminds us of the need for childlike faith. Jesus says that the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children, meaning those who have a humble and trusting faith.
3. it challenges us to be more like Jesus in our own attitudes and actions. We should be welcoming and compassionate towards children, recognizing their inherent worth and treating them with love and respect.
Overall, this passage shows us the heart of Jesus and the kind of love that he calls us to embody as his followers.
