Ringkasan:
The story of Barzillai is set in the middle of conflict between rebellious Absalom and his father, David. However, while Absalom pursued God’s chosen king, there were also loyal friends and supporters who stood by David with great courage and generosity. Barzillai the Gileadite was one of them.
God uses this wealthy men and some other men to sustain David and his followers. When they arrived in Mahanaim, east of the Jordan River. They hand fled from Jerusalem and Absalom, and their life on the run had taken them across the Jordan into the desert. It appears that David retreated into the wilderness to keep the capital city from being destroyed and in order to rally his forces to make a stand against Absalom. They needed food, shelter, clothing, and God provided all these at just the right time when he sent Barzillai and the others to them. They offered David and his follower bedding to sleep on, and delicious food to eat.
Barzillai, an elderly man, risked everything to support David, God’s chosen King. When King David offered him a reward, he rejected it, and gave it to another man, Kimham.
From this story we learn that:
1. We should not be selfish, and want to protect ourselves and our family only. We should serve God’s people. Barzillai risk everything to serve the Lord and did not seek for reward.
2. Even though you are young and Barzillai is old, you can serve God.
3. You please God when you trust and depend on Him
